Guidelines
For WordPress Migrations/Rebuilds
These are projects where you’re taking a website built in another system (Wix, SquareSpace, GoDaddy, Elementor, Avada, Figma, Penpot, etc) and creating it in Divi.
Your priorities when doing this are:
- Transfer the content. Text, photos, design elements, etc in full resolution.
- No custom code, use the tools provided. Never use custom code to accomplish something, it will cause problems for us in the future. If you are going to use a plugin different from the tools that are already on the WordPress installation, please ask first, we can usually help you use a tool that’s there already or point you to a resource we typically use.
- Documentation. Examples:
- If you put in a form via Divi, make a note of that, we’ll need to setup email sending correctly or connect it to the email marketing provider.
- A design element is in the site, but not interactive. Make a note, we’ll need to make it interactive.
- Something should be dynamic content. Make a note, we’ll need to make it dynamic content.
- Match design. This is the last priority, but still important, we want the design matched as closely as possible, but we don’t need to you get it to 100% design match or functionality, especially if you’re going to use custom code to do so.
To summarize:
Your goal is to get it about 80% of the way there, which means get a nice looking, mostly functional version in WordPress/Divi for us. After this, we will go back through to tweak design, make changes, and implement functionality such as dynamic content, custom post types, forms working, etc.
When in doubt, just ask! We’re just a chat message away.
